Karan Johar, one of the multi-talented celebrity of Bollywood, is known for his big budget, lavish, larger than life and glamorous films. From love stories like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Netflix’s bold Lust Stories, Karan Johar has given some of the bets and all time favorite films in Bollywood. Johar has been in the Industry for over 24 years now, as he entered in Bollywood as assistant director for Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, however here we are only looking at the films which were directed by Karan Johar not produced or assisted.

In 2018 Netflix’s Lust Story came out, which is an Indian anthology film compiled of four short stories – one being directed by Karan Johar which features Kiara Advani and Vicky Kaushal. The short film showed Johar’s directing talent really good and the film received positive response.
4 ) Student of the year (feat. Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra).
In 2012, Karan Johar made a comeback in direction after a 12 year break. He launched three new actors Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra with Student Of The Year. While many fans and critics called the film unrealistic because of too much glamour and college life and campus that was too hard to believe for Indian audience, the film was a big hit making it one of the highest grossing film of 2012. Karan also won Dream Director award for the film at Stardust awards.
3 ) Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (feat. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Amitabh Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan).
In 2001, Karan made a film which is kind of a guilty pleasure film for many fans. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is a family drama film with huge cast. The film was a big hit and the music of the film became quite popular as well. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s chemistry was unbeatable. The film won 5 Filmfare award and was the highest grossing film overseas at that time.
2 ) Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (feat. Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherjee).
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is Karan Johar’s first film as a director. The film became a classic and the dialogues are still popular. The film won number of awards and established Karan Johar as the best director. The film also started one of the best actor-director duo of Bollywood – Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar.
1 ) My Name Is Khan (feat. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol).
My Name is Khan is by far Karan Johar’s best film. It was one of the most expensive films of it’s time and created much controversy for it’s subject and story. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol delivered some great performances. The film was screened at International film festivals and won number of awards including Filmfare best director for Karan Johar.
Special mention to Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, which didn’t work well in India but was a huge hit overseas.
