Indian film Industry was dominated by males. While there have been many films from different eras of Bollywood which were women centric and featured some fine performances by actresses, behind the camera it continued to be a male dominating world. However in past a dacade or so, more female writers grabbed the pen to tell a story they believed in and surprised the audience with commercial and critical success.

Writer Alankrita took a major risk writing this much controversial Indian film about women. The film talks about the women’s freedom and desire with a stellar cast including Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra, Konkona Sen Sharma and more.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti.
Zoya Akhtar has been one of the top female fimmakers of India. While she along with Reema Kagti also wrote Gully Boy, ZNMD, takes the spot here as Gully Boy was more focussed on music and rap. ZNMD had more and better character writing as well.
Firaaq – Nandita Das.

Kanika Dhillon wrote this triangle relationshio about a woman who falls in love with a man but gets into an arrange marriage with another man and she starts to fall for her husband before her ex-lover shows up.
