India’s first color film was Kisan Kanya released in 1937.
Moti Gidwani served as the director, and Ardeshir Irani of Imperial Pictures served as producer. It was based on a Saadat Hasan Manto novel and highlighted the plight of underprivileged farmers. The movie had a running time of 137 minutes and was produced in Cinecolor.

Kisan Kanya cast:

Padma Devi, Jilloo, Ghulam Mohammed, Nissar, Syed Ahmed, and Gani Gani were among the cast members.
There had been previous attempts to give Indian movies color before Kisan Kanya. Sairandhri was made in multicolor in 1933, but the color quality wasn’t good enough because the negatives were damaged during processing in Germany.
The introduction of Technicolor film in the 1950s sparked India’s actual advancement in color cinema. The first Assamese color film was Bhaity (1972) by Kamal Narayan Choudhury, and Nip Baruah’s Ajali Nabou (1980) was the first Eastman Color film in the language.
